Dancehall artist Clive Bright born December 2, 1966 more popularly known as Tenor Saw was once considered as one of the most influential act in the 1980’s. His song “Ring The Alarm” is like a anthem in the sound system culture that he is best known for on the “Stalag Riddim”. Born at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Kingston, Jamaica, Clive Bright was raised in Payneland, Marverley, Olympic Gardens before his family settled in Duhaney Park. Clive Bright sang on the Seventh Day Baptiste Church at Olympic Gardens and had a religious upbringing. His interest develop seeking to get into the music industry and approach several music producers in Kingston area. After being rejected by many, George Pang gave the youngster the opportunity to record his first single “Roll Call” in 1984 under Pang’s Powerhouse Label on ‘Queen Majesty Riddim’. Tenor Saw move on with his friend Nitty Gritty to Sugar Minott’s Youth Man Promotion sound system and Black Roots Record Label, where he quicky emerge with hits in Jamaica such as “Lots Of Sign”, “Pumkin Belly”, “Run Come Call Me” and “Fever” and his most popular song “Ring The Alarm” that was voice for Winston Riley on the Technique Label. Tenor Saw success continues with him working with King Jammy’s and voicing ‘Pumkin Belly’ on the new “Sleng Teng” riddim at the time. His continuous hits followed “Golden Hen” in 1986 and Sugar Minott issued Tenor Saw debut album entitled “Fever” in that year.
Tenor Saw relocate to Miami during the time his album drop and continue to record joining the Skengdon crew where he release singles such as “Dancehall Feelings” and “Bad Boys”. He has also worked with Donovan Germain before moving to New York releasing “No Work On Sundays”. Tenor Saw career was short lived after a tragic accident during the time he was finding hits continuously. In 1988 Tenor Saw was badly injured during a hit and run accident in Houston, Texas and was receiving treatment at the Ben Taub General Hospital. He succumb to his injuries two weeks later on August 13, 1988. He was age 21 when he died. Other conspiracies surround the artist passing where it reported from other sources that Tenor Saw was murdered, his official cause of death was closed head injury and bumper injuries complicated by a severe lungs infection. Rumors also had it that Tenor Saw was shot and killed in New York which lead some people to wonder what really happened to Tenor Saw.
