Beenie Man Fireback At Andrew Holness In New Song ‘Weh Di Money Deh’

Several dancehall entertainers have joined the growing criticism of Prime Minister Andrew Holness following Beenie Man’s remarks about the Government’s handling of Hurricane Melissa relief funds during an international interview with ITV. In response to the allegations, Holness dismissed the criticism and disclosed that over $300 million from the Government’s $3.8 billion post-hurricane allocation for the health sector had been directed towards the reconstruction of a hospital. However, the Prime Minister’s comments about Beenie Man sparked further controversy, prompting reactions from entertainers including Konshens, Buju Banton and Tanya Stephens. Holness, while encouraging Jamaicans to avoid damaging the country’s reputation, stated, “We must call them out because they go and wave our flag and get people to come to attend their shows, while they’re out there tearing down our country.”

Following the exchange, Beenie Man responded creatively by recording a new track titled “Weh Di Money Deh,” addressing the ongoing dispute and highlighting the concerns of hurricane-affected residents. While sharing a preview of the song, the veteran deejay wrote, “Jamaica, you asked for your voices to be heard through the music, and mi hear you!” The recording serves as a musical response to the controversy while bringing attention to the plight of Jamaicans still seeking assistance in the aftermath of the hurricane.
